Thor Normann goes exploring Iceland… watch this two-minute clip to see what he got up to

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:

Best time to go: It depends on what type of adventure you are looking for.  In summer the sun never sets, that’s 24 hours of daylight to explore this unique setting bursting with colour and gorgeous waterfalls.  But for those in search of the Northern Lights winter is, without doubt, the best time of year.  However, many of the roads could be closed which makes exploring a little more difficult… Unless you hitch a ride on the back of a dog sled.

Transport: During summer, you can visit most attractions without a 4×4 as most are located on the ring-road.  Tour operators are well priced but it does mean that you will explore these attractions in a large group with little chance to break away and explore off the beaten track.  In winter you need to take a 4×4 and add full insurance to that package… you will not regret it!

Money: Iceland is very expensive.  If you do not have cash to splash shopping at supermarkets can help tighten the food budget.  Do not be fooled, Iceland is bigger than you think and if you base yourself in the capital, Reykjavik, and drive back everyday fuel will become an overbearing expense.  It is better to plan what you want to see and book accommodation en route.

This is one of the most Instagram-worthy places you will ever visit be sure to pack your camera and GoPro.
