Franki Black is a South African travel writer currently based in London. She’s worked in a Costa Rican jungle, on yachts in the Caribbean and in the African bushveld. As an expert journalist and travel writer, we recently caught up with her to find out what she recommends as the top outdoor adventures that need to be added to everyone’s bucket list. Sit back, relax and be inspired.

We truly connect to a place while walking, by meeting the locals, smelling the food and feeling the breeze brush against our skins. As an answer to the fast-paced modern world we live in, walking tours and holidays have become increasingly popular over recent years.

For the first half an hour everyone was blown away by the beauty of it all: marshy swampland as far as the eye can see, beautiful plant life and millions of little animals flying, crawling and swimming all around us.

Make sure your fitness levels are at a reasonable level and get the knees ready for a bit of strain (a walking stick will make you look fragile but you’ll be grateful for it when tackling some of the steep climbs along the way). There are also countless waterfalls and pools to be enjoyed, so make sure you’ve packed your water wings and got that beach body into shape.
