“If you can’t travel with your body, at least travel with your senses,” goes the saying, and it’s a very apt expression for the times we currently live in.
“The greatest sadness of all is to forget how to play” is a quote I have long admired. Determined to keep my playful spirit alive and well I arrived on Reunion Island with nothing before me except a whole Pandora’s Box of adventures to unpack. For a few days of carefree fun this island seemed like just the ticket.
With sweat dripping down our faces, we catch the bus by a split second. We’re not too sure yet if it is, in fact, the correct bus, but we keep our fingers crossed. I’m trusting that my basic Italiano will not fail us today on this mission.
Food is a big part of travel and relationship: once you have shared a local meal with someone in a place other than your hometown, you instantly have a deeper connection.
Formerly, these huts were reserved for hardened diamond divers, employed to scour the ocean floor when conditions allowed or simply roll over and head back to bed when the howling monster of the west wind tormented these seas.
French flags adorn the buildings and the classic French beret makes a fashionable come-back – donned by all who roam the streets.
As I start unwinding from the drive and week, I get a fuzzy, contented feeling and begin to wonder what stories might have been shared around this fire place.
